Professor David Farnell will give a lecture titled “Two Centuries of Frankenstein: The Affect Literature has on Culture and the Affect that Culture has on Literature” this January!\u00a0During the talk he will be discussing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Looking at how this classic novel has inspired us and writers, can help shed light on why studying literature is important.\u00a0This kind of in-depth analysis can bring us joy as well as knowledge.<\/p>\n

Professor Farnell’s main research area is American literature. He focuses on utopian and dystopian themes in literature. He researches about authors such as Herman Melville, Ursula Le Guin, James Baldwin, Kim Stanley Robinson, Octavia Butler, HP Lovecraft, Margaret Atwood, and others.\u00a0He is an editor for Sky-Hawk: The Journal of the Melville Society of Japan and for Kyushu American Literature Journal.
