Outline: Climate change-induced summer heat is a growing challenge to all living organisms over the globe. We have found that some blood amino acid concentrations changed in chickens when they were exposed to heat. Subsequently, we have discovered that those amino acids and their natural sources in agricultural waste can afford survival in chickens under scorching summer heat. In this class, we will learn about heat stress and sustainable poultry production using amino acids and waste watermelon.

This course focuses on how Islamic teachings, interpretations, and practices have addressed issues of gender and sexuality, particularly those related to LGBTQ identities. Special attention will be given to contemporary issues in Southeast Asia.The course emphasizes active student discussions and encourages mutual learning by engaging with diverse perspectives. Through critical and respectful dialogue, students will deepen their understanding of complex and sometimes sensitive topics. We will explore how religious norms shape and intersect with LGBTQ experiences within the context of Islam.

This lecture examines how climate change and natural resource development are affecting food security and Indigenous sovereignty in the Arctic. M Thawing ice and disrupted wildlife patterns challenge traditional subsistence practices, while mining, oil, and gas projects bring both opportunities and environmental risks. We will discuss how people in the Arctic try to balance economic development, care for the environment, and continue their traditional ways of life. The Arctic shows how global changes affect both nature and human societies.

Forests cover nearly 70% of Japan’s land. They are often said to provide critical functions such as disaster mitigation and water source conservation—functions closely linked to our everyday lives. In Japan, forests are managed at various levels, from national to local governments. However, such management practices are not always based on solid scientific evidence. In this lecture, we will explore the question: “What kind of sustainable forest management can truly enhance forest functions and improve our quality of life?” Let this be a starting point for thinking critically about the relationship between forests, science, and society.
