Check out SALC’s next book discussion event, on June 13th, from 5-6 pm.
The SALC Book Club is an open book discussion session, where the host will share their favourite book, and initiate a discussion about the topics and themes of the book. This is an event where you can discover new books and talk about interesting book themes and genres!
This time, we are reviewing the classic timeless novel by Jane Austen, “Persuasion”. The story is about a young woman beyond marriageable age in the 18th century England, whose aristocratic family was going broke. The family had to rent out the house to make some money and move away. In the midst of this, she met again with the man whose marriage proposal she rejected years ago. The novel deals with topics of classism in pre-modern England, women’s rights and place in the society, and the impact of social pressure on a person’s life choices.
No reservation required and it’s ok if you haven’t read the book before! We look forward to seeing you there!
