SALC holds daily English conversation sessions. There is no set topic and students can join anytime without having to make reservation. However, SALC also holds a range of other special language tables. These are a great way to practice speaking a new language in a relaxed atmosphere.
English Language Table (in Collaboration with JTW)
Professor Masateru Higo from the International Student Center established a special weekly English Language Table that usually takes place once a week inside the centre during the semester. In addition to SALC’s daily conversation sessions, this event provides students with another chance to speak English. The activity takes place in conjunction with the Japan in Today’s World (JTW) program, which means that participants get the chance to interact with exchange students from all over the world. It is a unique opportunity to speak about a wide range of social issues!
Chinese and Korean Language Tables (Supported by Student Volunteers)
And did you know that students can also practice languages other than English in SALC? Professor Satoshi Nakazatomi from the Faculty of Languages and Cultures established a Chinese Language Table in 2017, which usually takes place once a week inside SALC during the school semester. Also, during the semester, SALC often holds a weekly language table that gives students the chance to practice Korean!
Additional Language Tables (Supported by SALC TAs)
Furthermore, in order to give students the chance to practice their language skills, SALC holds additional language tables every semester. The center has previously run Japanese, French, Spanish, Russian, and Malay languages table. These events usually take place once a week during the semester. They give language learners and native speakers who want to meet people interested in their country a chance to engage with one another. These language tables are supported by SALC teaching assistants.
Additional Information
No registration is necessary for any of the language tables. Also, since every meeting is an independent event, don’t hesitate to come even if you missed some of the earlier sessions! They often take place during the lunch break, so please feel free to bring your lunch!
