Funding
This page provides an overview of the research funding that supports the laboratory, including competitive grants, internal university funding, and industry collaborations. The laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research spanning neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and Future Design, and its funding structure reflects this cross-disciplinary research framework. Rather than emphasizing total funding amounts, the laboratory focuses on building sustainable research platforms through interdisciplinary integration and societal connection. Some collaborative and commissioned projects cannot be described in full due to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) or institutional policies; therefore, this page presents information only within the range that can be publicly disclosed and is consistent with official university announcements. For the philosophy and framework of industry collaboration, see Collaboration, and for publicly released outcomes see Press Releases.
Competitive Grants (as Principal Investigator)
The laboratory has obtained national competitive funding with Tsuyoshi Okamoto serving as Principal Investigator. Representative awards include:
- JSPS KAKENHI (Young Scientists B), Principal Investigator (2009–2011)
- JSPS KAKENHI (Challenging Exploratory Research), Principal Investigator (2012–2013)
Additional projects have also been supported through collaborative or co-investigator roles.
Large-Scale Strategic Programs
The laboratory has participated in nationally funded strategic research programs while serving leadership roles within multi-group research teams.
- JST-Mirai Program, Co-Investigator and Group Leader (2017–2019) One of three research groups within the project; responsible for leading the group’s research direction and supervising a postdoctoral researcher supported by allocated project funds.
Internal University Funding (as Principal Investigator)
Internal competitive funding at Kyushu University has been used to establish and develop interdisciplinary research platforms.
